The basis of the development of recreational training includes: acrobatics, balance, juggling, games, the unicycle, the tightrope, pyramids and aerial techniques.

L’École de cirque de Verdun evaluates the students twice per year (December and May).
This evaluation determines that:

The age of the participant is also taken into consideration when a change in level is suggested.

In a recreational context, the students of a group do not necessarily all change levels at the same time as it is essential to respect each person’s pace.

Description of general courses:

Parents/children (3 to 5 years old): (Active participation of parents – one parent for each child)

Younger children explore the circus universe and its components in the form of games and with the help of the parent.

Basic 0.5 (5 to 6 years old) : (Pre-requisite: Parent-child course or child must be registered in kindergarten)

This course is the continuation of the Parent-child course and is intended to the child who is autonomous. The focus is on technique, acrobatics basis and manipulation in a safe context.

Basic 1 (6 to 8 years old) :

This course is a privileged initiation for children having reached autonomy. The course activities are related exclusively to the circus. Motor functions becomes acrobatics; manipulation, juggling ; coordination, balancing.

Basic 2 (8 to 14 years old) : (Prerequisite: Basic 1 or equivalent/ acquired the necessary skills)

This course is the extension of Basic 1 and is for children who qualify by age. Besides strengthening and assimilating techniques already acquired in Basic 1, this course integrates the artistic part of the circus.

Basic 3 ( 9 to 14 years old) :(Prerequisite: Basic 2 or equivalent)

Reaching this technical level allows for the passage to intermediate levels. This course is intended to help the participant grasp the marriage between technique and artistry. It can also be completed by the Option Troupe course.

Intermediate 1 (9 to 14 years old) : (Prerequisite: Basic 3 or equivalent)

Intermediate courses are intented to perfect and refine the techniques acquired, so as to achieve fluidity of motion while developing muscle tone and flexibility. Its presentation revolves around a choreographed theme. It can also be completed by the Option Troupe course.

Intermediate 2 (9 to 14 years old) : (Prerequisite: Intermediate 1 or equivalent)

The participant perfects his/her circus techniques, while being able to explore a specialty.

Option Troupe (from Basic 3)

The goal of this level of work is to participate in the creation of a semi-professional show. The course targets children who are registered in Basic 3 or Intermediate courses. The presentation is done at the school’s annual show and also within the framework of external activities. All the techniques learned serve exclusively for this show.
